Real wood blinds vs. faux wood blinds
Some people hate window blinds, while others simply love them, and let’s face it, there are many reasons people choose Venetian blinds over curtains. They are generally easier to clean; they are quite often cheaper than good quality lined curtains, and they also tend to be more resistant to odours etc. Window blinds are also made from a wide variety of materials, which once again makes them a good choice because you can use them in areas where it simply wouldn’t be practical to hang regular curtains, including places like bathrooms and kitchens.
While all types of blinds are generally very popular, many people wouldn’t dream of using anything other than wooden window blinds, and who can blame them. Not only to they look incredibly classy, but there is just something about the fact that they are made from real wood, rather than from some mass-produced synthetic material. Natural wood has a unique beauty which is hard to replicate with synthetic materials. Having said that, many of today's faux blinds look like genuine wood, particularly from a distance.
Why do many people choose faux wood blinds?
Many people choose to buy faux wood blinds instead of real wooden window blinds, despite the fact that they actually like the real wooden ones more. The big question is why? Well, there are a number of reasons why people go for the faux wood rather than real wood blinds, but the most common reason is because so many people are put off by the price of real wooden blinds. Another common reason is because faux wood blinds are routinely marketed as being more durable than real wooden window blinds. Faux wood blinds can either be made from a type wood composite material which is then coated in one or other high-tech material, or they can be made entirely from a vinyl/PVC type material.
To be 100% honest, faux wood blinds are in fact a better choice in some circumstances. For example, you might want to consider faux wood blinds in you live in an area that is prone to high temperatures or for south facing windows and high levels of humidity such as the bathroom. Under such conditions, real wooden blinds could end up warping unless you take particularly good care of them. Faux wood blinds are also a bit easier to clean, at least to a certain extent. The reason for this being that you don’t have to worry about them getting too wet, and you can also use virtually any sort of detergent on them without causing any damage.
Why real wooden window blinds are still the top choice
No matter how much you pay for faux wood blinds, they can never compete with the real deal in terms of looks. Real wood is simply far more aesthetically pleasing than faux wood. Genuine wooden blinds give any room in your home a sense of warmth, comfort, and sophistication. Yes, wooden window blinds do require some tender loving care, but there is no denying the fact that they are certainly well worth any extra effort that might be required.
